The purpose of this website is to provide
instruction and educational opportunities for students interested in the basic
fundamentals of band conducting. Additionally, this curriculum is designed to prepare students for the student-conductor assessment
administered by the Florida Bandmasters Association.
Items you'll need to get started:
- conductor's baton (ideally 12"-14" in length)
- conductor's score to your Student Conductor Piece
- metronome
- audio/video recording device
- blank staff paper (available here)
- access to a piano or keyboard
It is highly suggested that you utilize your band director as a guide through this 8-week process (checking assignments, providing conducting feedback, etc). Additionally, students should keep a reflection journal so as to keep track of their progress.
